By Daniel Machin

Nationwide is launching a new credit card offer just in time for Christmas.

The high street lender has confirmed that it is increasing its interest free purchase offer on the Select Credit Card for existing current account customers and Nationwide Credit Card for all newcomers.

Both cards, which also come with an interest-free balance transfer period and low balance transfer fee, are now among the best value credit cards on the market.

Spread the cost of Christmas

"With Christmas fast approaching, many people will be looking to use a credit card to help spread the cost," said Paul Carvell, Nationwide's head of credit cards.

"This new interest-free purchase period is one of the best offers available on the high street and could help you manage the cost of the festive season.

"If you're looking to take out a new credit card at this time of the year, you should look at the length of the purchase offer period to ensure you're getting best value for money.

"Alternatively, if you are looking to transfer a balance, you shouldn't just take into consideration the balance transfer period, you should also consider the fee."

Main current account holders will be able to take advantage of an interest-free purchase offer of 15 months when opening a Nationwide Select Credit Card.

Not only this, they will also get an interest free balance transfer offer of 26 months with a balance transfer fee of 2.4 per cent (minimum £5).

The Select Credit Card also offers 0.5 per cent cashback on anything that is purchased in pounds sterling, meaning people can earn as they spend, while the Nationwide Credit Card boasts a commission-free allowance which builds up whenever purchases are made in the same currency.

Nationwide's credit cards also provide access to Simply Rewards, where you can receive savings at various retail outlets, family restaurants and leisure facilities across the country.
