Lisa Greenfield, energy analyst at Confused.com says “We welcome Ofgem’s proposal to review the domestic consumption values. Our customers typically use more than the industry prescribed ‘average’ amount of electricity and less than the ‘average’ amount of gas. This means that currently best-buy tables do not tell an accurate story when relating to the bulk of energy users, failing to take into account that energy use has been decreasing since 2005, and therefore have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Redefining the average will make them a much more valuable tool in terms of indicating to customers what they should be paying. However, even if the definition does change, consumers must remember that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to choosing an energy tariff and the right tariff will depend entirely on their own personal circumstances. The best way to check is by using a Consumer focus accredited website like Confused.com. “
