A new poll has found that millions of female motorists are putting their own and other road users' lives at risk by doing routine morning tasks, such as eating breakfast, applying make-up and checking emails, during their drive to work.

Women's car insurance specialist Diamond warned that women who do their routine morning tasks behind the wheel are violating the Road Traffic Act, and could be prosecuted, fined, or given a prison sentence.

The findings, based on an analysis of female driving habits, showed that a tenth of the female drivers who put on make-up in their car admit to doing so while the vehicle is moving.

The survey also found that a number of women are risking their lives by taking their hands off the wheel completely to apply make-up.

According to Diamond, half a million women who apply make-up behind the wheel could have crashed.
