Stone Roses lead singer Ian Brown has escaped  a driving ban despite pleading guilty to speeding.

Brown, 48, of of Lymm, Cheshire, was fined £650 and had his driving licence endorsed with six penalty points. He had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to travelling at 105mph in his Lexus car on the M6.

Appearing at Chester Magistrates' Court, Brown was also ordered to pay £300 prosecution costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

His Lawyer argued that a driving ban would severely hamper him seeing his 11-year-old son, who lives in London with his mother, and also make it hard to attend band rehearsals, said to be taking place at a "remote location".

The singer changed his plea to guilty before his trial when he realised that the speeds clocked by the police were correct.
