A lobby group is attempting to drive slow motorists off the road, it has been revealed.

The Association of British Drivers (ABD) is aiming to make the roads safer by forcing slower drivers to pull over to let faster motorists pass.

The ABD is calling for the introduction of a law after it was revealed that slow drivers make 60% of people stressed and irritated behind the wheel.

The figures were released by comparison website confused.com.

But the ABD does not back the websites proposals to introduce minimum speed limits through the use of cameras.

ABD chairman Brian Gregory said: "If everybody drove at the speed a reasonable person would expect to travel, the roads would be much safer, less stressful places for all.

"Unfortunately there will always be those who wish to travel either dangerously fast or far too slow - causing congestion and prompting rash behaviour."
