Older drivers are more likely to stop and help others who have broken down, a survey has found.

However, nearly a quarter (24%) of the 16,850 AA members surveyed said they would be wary of the cry for help being a con.

Some 12% said they would not stop, with Londoners being the least likely to offer assistance. Meanwhile just 10% of over-65s polled said they would fail to stop, in comparison to 16% of 18-24 year olds. Scottish drivers were found to be the most likely to stop and offer assistance.

Commenting on the findings Edmund King, AA president, said: "It is interesting that older drivers seem much more likely to stop and are three times less likely than younger drivers to wish someone had not stopped to help them." Emma Sword
