A Sunderland-built vehicle, the Nissan Qashqai, has been voted the best overall used car of the year by the What Car? company.

The Quashqai also won the prize for the best used family car, and the best executive and luxury car was the Jaguar XF, built in Birmingham.

The Ford Fiesta 1.25i Style+ 5dr was voted the best Supermini; the Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Zetec 5dr the best family car; the Volkswagen Passat Estate 1.9 TDI SE the best Estate; the Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCi Zetec the top MPV; the Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 CRTD CDX 7st the best SUV; the Porsche Boxster 2.7 the best sports car; and the top Green car was the Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI SE 5dr.

All teams involved in producing the Nissan Qashqai and the Jaguar XF should be proud, said What Car? editor-in-chief Chas Hallett.

He added: "The quality of these cars was great when they were new, and three years later they make unbeatable-value used buys."
