New app keeps mileage claims simple

If you're fed up of trying to keep track of your business miles on scraps of paper, a new app for the iPhone may be the solution you need.

The RoadTrip app, released by Vauxhall, allows its users to create a library of information relating to their favourite journeys and locations.

It is hoped the new technology will help speed up and simplify mileage claims, as drivers need only enter journey information once, and can then automatically update their log.

RoadTrip's app differs from similar driving apps because it doesn't just help with journeys but can also calculate the driver's business expenses.

The user can choose a vehicle, a destination and a route and the app will work out the cost of the journey, including mileage rates and any other potential expenses.

Designed to minimise errors, the makers hope the accuracy of business trip claims will improve.

The app also offers data back up, password protection and the option to access the information on other devices.

Vauxhall's fleet marketing manager, Steve Catlin, said: "The RoadTrip app combines navigational tools with smart calculation software to offer an easy-to-use app for any employee on the road."
