A judge has jailed a man from east London after he drunkenly stole an ambulance vehicle on a night of the year when its was sorely needed.
Drunk driver Daniel Glover, from Mile End, jumped in the ambulance response car on New Year's Eve so he could get home after he left a party.
Judge Anthony Goldstaub, sitting at Chelmsford Crown Court, said: "You stole this vehicle on a night of the year when the need for it to preserve life and help the ill and injured was at its greatest."
Glover admitted aggravated vehicle taking, drink driving, driving without insurance and obstructing a police officer during the high-speed chase which reached up to 120mph.
The 26-year-old said he did not know it was an emergency vehicle, even though he drove with the blue light on and it was marked up.
His dangerous chase ended after police used a stinger to puncture the tyres. When he was finally captured Glover told a police officer he was going to break his nose.
He was sentenced to nine months in jail and banned from driving for 18 months.
