Lancashire is the first region to publish how     many motoring offences have been caught by its 285 speed cameras.

The details, broken down into how many speeding offences and fines came from information recorded on cameras, were published on the Lancashire Partnership for     Road Safety website.

All local authorities and police forces were given a deadline of 20 July to tell the Department for Transport (DfT) the website address where this information would be published.

But the DfT merely said each authority should put up the speed camera data “as soon as practical” rather than setting a strict deadline.

Lancashire’s site will be run by the county council and the police, and will be updated yearly.

It also includes statistics relating to speed awareness courses, and court appearances by motorists.

Last year, cameras in Lancashire found almost 50,000 people to be speeding, generating 21,809 fines.

Lancashire's Assistant Chief Constable, Andy Rhodes, who is also chair of the road safety partnership, said: "We are committed to reducing the number of people killed and injured on the county's roads and we will continue to use cameras to help us achieve this."
