Two brothers have received jail terms for their involvement in a major "crash for cash" car insurance scam.

By making claims concerning deliberate car bumps, police believe 34-year-old Rezwan Javed and his 36-year-old brother Rehan, both from Dovedale Close, Burnley, defrauded insurance firms of £995,915.

Rezwan Javed and Rehan were respectively sentenced to six years and five years in prison at Minshull Street Crown Court.

A previous trial had already found them guilty of conspiracy to defraud and possession of an article for use in fraud.

On average, the brothers managed to get roughly £3,000 from insurers for each of their fraudulent claims.

They made claims for things such as repairs and vehicle write-offs.

The brothers' scam saw them instruct associates to stop vehicles suddenly at roundabouts, causing a shunt with the cars behind them.
