Drivers are being offered weekly motoring tips from driver training specialist IAM Drive & Survive.
This week, head of training Simon Elstow is offering advice on green driving to save you up to 15 per cent on your fuel bills while reducing carbon emissions.
The first thing he says is to keep the vehicle moving for as long as possible, even in traffic queues, as this is more fuel efficient than starting and stopping. Also make sure you stick to the speed limit, as significant fuel savings can be made by keeping to 70mph rather than cruising at 80.
Elstow recommends you check your vehicle regularly, including the conditions of your tyres and the tyre pressure. Then check what you're actually transporting in and on the car since roof racks, car clutter and heavy items can increase the amount of fuel you'll use.
Lastly, if you keep you front and rear windscreens clean, they will rarely mist up, cutting out the need to waste fuel on using the heater and air-conditioning.
