A flying car called the Terrafugia Transition could soon be soaring over America after being given clearance by the United States.

And the EU isn't far behind after investing £4.2 million in a Personal Aerial Vehicle known as myCopter. The craft would allow users to fly over cars and ensure they wouldn't get stuck in traffic jams ever again.

But it may be some time before myCopter, which is being worked on by researchers at Liverpool University, is ready to use.

In contrast the US model, the Terrafugia, is ready. It operates like every other car and can reach a top speed of 65mph with a fuel consumption of 35mpg.

But unlike conventional cars the Terrafugia has wings. Its wings are 28 feet and six inches when they are unfolded. The two-seater vehicle can also reach a speed of 115mph in the air and burns five gallons of fuel an hour.

Those interested in the flying car will have to pay up to £150,000, with interest already reported in Britain. Despite its high price tag the Terrafugia still doesn't cost as much as the luxury Rolls Royce Phantom.
