With the school summer holidays starting this weekend, motorists are likely to face long traffic delays on the county's road network
Drivers are warned over traffic build-ups on the A303 from the M3 through Hampshire, Wiltshire and Somerset.
According to the AA, some 14 million cars are likely to be on the roads from Friday lunchtime.
Road safety minister Mike Penning has called on people to check traffic conditions ahead off hitting the road.
Drivers may suffer the worst disruption on routes to south west England, while main routes to the coast are also likely to remain busy.
The AA added that traffic chaos is also likely to occur at cross-Channel ports and at major airports.
Other top traffic hotspots include the M5 from Almondsbury near Bristol to Exeter, the M3/M27/A31 from Winchester in Hampshire to the Dorset coast and the M6 between Junction 11A through Staffordshire and Cheshire into Lancashire.
