Motorists can take valuable money-saving tips from the country's taxi drivers who have reduced their fuel consumption by an average of 20% each over the last month as part of a campaign to make cabs more fuel-efficient.
Shell's Smarter Cab Drivers campaign will see each taxi driver save £1,552 each over a 12-month period if they can maintain the same level of fuel-efficient driving all year round.
Based on these figures, regular drivers could save £544 if they applied the same driving tips, which would be enough to cover the cost of road tax for two years.
The campaign, which has also been organised by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), says that a collective total of £18.5 billion could be saved if all of the UK's drivers were to adopt the fuel consumption techniques.
There are various ways that drivers can cut their fuel consumption such as turning their air conditioning down or off, not over-revving and not having too much in their vehicle's boots.
