If you need a flexible, practical and economical family car, then the Vauxhall Meriva is right up your street. It's a 5-seater with a fairly low engine size varying between 1.3l and 1.7l on its latest models, and it typically comes under a low insurance group and low tax band. Vauxhall Meriva: Did you know?

  • Production - 2002 - present
  • Assembly - Zaragoza, Spain
  • Class - MPV

The Vauxhall Meriva is a small MPV first introduced in 2002. In 2010 the second generation Meriva went on sale and it won the 'Compact Car Award' by the Golden Steering Wheel awards in the same year. Aside from the higher-than-normal seating one of the most notable differences between the Meriva and other family cars is that the rear doors are rear-hinged, meaning they open towards the back  of the car rather than the front.

The Meriva's second generation, named the Meriva B, is slightly larger in size compared to its previous generation, the mini MPV, and it's now classified as a compact MPV. If the 5-seater Meriva is just a little too small for you, then consider the 7-seater Vauxhall Zafira.

The Vauxhall Meriva has a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Adaptive forward lighting, ESP, ABS, straight-line stability, electronic brake-force distribution, a plethora of airbags and active front headrests all contribute to making the Meriva an extremely safe car to be in.

The Meriva has a ‘blade’ window line, which is intended to make it easier for children to see out of the car.
