Ford Galaxy: The facts
- Manufactured: 1995 - present
- Class: Large MPV
- Related cars: Volkswagen Sharan and SEAT Alhambra
Being Ford's top end, and biggest, MPV, the Galaxy has a lot to live up to, which it certainly does. When reviewed by What Car?, it was given 4 out of 5 stars as well as being named MPV of the Year by Professional Driver Magazine in 2012.
As a joint venture between Ford and the Volkswagen Group, the early Galaxy models could be seen as VW designs with a Ford badge attached. The year 2000 saw a major redesign take place resulting in the Galaxy beginning to distance itself from VW. However, it wasn't until 2006, when the third generation model went on sale, that the Galaxy became a four pillar vehicle of Ford design with not a VW part in sight.
As you would expect from a car designed with families in mind, Ford incorporated a lot of safety measures. When Euro NCAP put these to the test, the Galaxy performed highly and scored a maximum 5 star safety result.
Not only is it more fun to drive than most MPVs, according to What Car?, it also offers a lot of space. With all the middle and back tier seats folded down, you get 2,325 litres of capacity - now that's a lot of luggage or shopping!
