It might not be the cheapest vehicle for car insurance but consumers looking to buy a new motor which will retain its value should look to the Audi A3, according to an industry website.
Auto Trader looked at the cost of Britain's top 10 most popular cars in August last year and compared them to the asking price on their website AutoTrader.co.uk in July.
Over the 12 months, the Audi had lost just 7% of its value whereas the Ford Fiesta, the most popular car of last year, lost 23%, it found.
Meanwhile the Ford Focus, which Autotrader.co.uk users voted the best car of the decade last year, lost 39% of its value.
Britain's top 10 most popular vehicles lost the following percentages in their first year:
:: Ford Fiesta - 23 per cent
:: Ford Focus - 39 per cent
:: Vauxhall Corsa - 10 per cent
:: Vauxhall Astra - 45 per cent
:: Volkswagen Golf - 26 per cent
:: Audi A3 - 7 per cent
:: Peugeot 207 - 20 per cent
:: Vauxhall Insignia - 34 per cent
:: Honda Jazz - 18 per cent
:: Vauxhall Vectra Life - 54 per cent
