Urban insurance myths could cost dear
A new study published today by insurance provider Swiftcover, discovered that UK motorists are very perplexed about what is and what isn't covered by their motor insurance.
The figures from the report showed that 29% of drivers questioned felt they were insured on their own insurance if they drove a partner of friend's car. This is normally not the case unless it is included in the small print and if so it could only be third party cover.
65% of drivers eat whilst driving and over 30% smoke, yet when questioned, over said they did not know if their insurance covered them if they were in an accident while engaging in one of these activities. The facts are that even if the accident wasn't their fault, the motorist could be found to be negligent.
10% of people also assumed that their insurance policy would cover them in case they put the wrong type of fuel in their car. Many policies do not cover this eventuality.
A spokeswoman for the insurer said that a motorist should really look at all the policy terms and conditions and not rely on assumptions or myths which could turn in to costly mistakes.
