Make security a priority this summer

A new report by price comparison service Confused.com is urging homeowners to take care during the summer as in-house security tends to get a bit slack.

A spokesman for the company said that it was important to ensure that home security was not lackadaisical as these lapses could invalidate homeowners' insurance, making it doubly expensive.

The company suggests homeowners remember to:

  • Make sure they don't leave windows and doors open when owners are not at home
  • Ensure the home is fitted with an alarm and other security measures
  • Make sure they have suitable procedures in place when they go on holiday such as cancelling the milk and newspapers; using timer switches on lights to give the impressions that someone is at home etc
  • Finally, the company suggest making sure owners lock their garages and put away ladders and gardening tools in to their sheds.
